Mary Ungerleider has been a
filmmaker since 1989. Her editor/director/writer credits include MANDRAKE: A
MAGICAL LIFE, TOFINO: THE ROAD STOPS HERE, TEACHING: MAKING A DIFFERENCE and
BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS IN SCHOOLS. She is best known for her documentary and
commercial editing.
Mary participated in the
1998 Resident Editor’s Lab at the Canadian Film Centre and returned
there in 1999 to edit the film DEEP CUT. She has also travelled to
Banff several times to act as editor and Mentor Editor for The Women In
the Directors Chair Workshop. Her recent editorial work includes the
short dramatic films THREE LIVES OF KATE, THE LONELY PASSION OF PETAR
THE PIG FARMER, and TEARS OF A LOTUS, documentaries and two music videos
for singer/songwriter Oh Susanna, which Mary also produced.
Other editing work of note
includes: CHORE WARS: THE BATTLE OVER WHO CLEANS THE TOILET, SOUL
COMMUNION, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF WILLIAM SHATNER, and BITTER PARADISE:
THE SELLOUT OF EAST TIMOR, which was chosen Best Political Documentary
at Hot Docs. In 2000, she won a Leo Award for Best Editing – Picture in
a Short Drama for the film A FEELING CALLED GLORY. She was nominated
for a second film, THE REMEMBERER, in the same category. A number of her
commercials have won national and international awards.
For
several years Mary served on the boards of Moving Images Distribution
and Women in Film and Video Vancouver. Her work as president of WIFVV
was recognized with a Lifetime Member Award. Mary is the proud partner
of an educator/writer husband (for whom she regularly serves as editor)
and the mother of two creative daughters, both working in the
entertainment business and both recent mothers themselve |
